About the Vineyard
Vintage 2022 was a cooler year in the Riverland. After the bumper crop of 2021, late-spring hail and poor bunch set in some blocks led to yields slightly below average. Yet what the year lacked in quantity, it made up for in quality—bright acidity, plush fruit, and long, flavourful wines defined the vintage. The Hell Series represents Delinquente’s experimentation with winemaking techniques, allowing the fruit to express unique, compelling personalities.
Vinification
All fruit was handpicked, destemmed, and fermented separately. The Fiano was fermented in stainless steel, while the Arinto and Malvasia were fermented in neutral French barriques. The wine was blended and bottled mid-vintage to capture the final stages of fermentation, producing its natural Pet Nat sparkle. Unlike the DLQ Pet Nats, this wine was disgorged before release. With no dosage, the style is bone dry. During disgorgement, 20–30ml of wine may be lost, and bottles are topped up with additional wine.
About Delinquente
Every Delinquente wine comes from a single vineyard, using only wild yeast, fermented in stainless steel, made vegan, and crafted with minimal intervention. Winemaker Con-Greg’s style is clean and fresh, focusing less on tannins and oak, and more on acidity, texture, and layers of fruit character.
Delinquente’s striking labels are created by street artist Ankles, inspired by everyday people. Each tattoo-covered character is strange, provocative, yet intriguing—perfectly capturing Delinquente’s spirit: fun, honest, and deeply connected to terroir. These wines aim to stand apart from prestigious “cult” wines and to challenge perceptions of the Riverland as merely a large-volume region.
Con-Greg’s unconventional winemaking has been widely recognised in Australia, earning him the 2018 Young Gun of Wine Award in South Australia. As he says:
“We’re making weird, tiny-batch wines in the country’s biggest wine region—so in a way, that makes us Delinquente.”
