Power to the Farmers
Most tea comes from large plantations that rely on the exploitation of workers. The small farmers who grow our teas control their land and their livelihoods. With your support, we’re building an alternative tea model that puts power back in the hands of small farmers.

Equal Exchange’s mission is to build long-term trade partnerships that are economically just and environmentally sound, to foster mutually beneficial relationships between farmers and consumers and to demonstrate, through our success, the contribution of worker co-operatives and Fair Trade to a more equitable, democratic and sustainable world.

ORGANIC CHAMOMILE TEA / Caffeine-Free
The caffeine-free Egyptian chamomile emits a unique, delicate floral scent, with a naturally subtle sweet taste that promotes inner calm.
Ingredients | 100% Organic Chamomile Flowers
Origin | Egypt
We are proud to support the work of SEKEM, a leader in sustainable agriculture and community development for more than 40 years. SEKEM, located northeast of Cairo, works with farmers throughout Egypt and has achieved incredible economic and community prosperity. They are at the forefront of organic and sustainable agriculture and technology which has helped their crops to flourish despite the inhospitable desert environment that surrounds them. Most teas–even those that are certified as fair trade–come from large plantations where workers have little say and are trapped in a system of dependency. Together, we’re building an alternative tea model and a farmer-led future for the tea industry.

ORGANIC ROOIBOS TEA / Caffeine-Free
This red bush tea, also known as rooibos, is naturally caffeine-free with earthy flavor notes. Delicious with milk, straight up, or over ice. Go ahead and enjoy another cup.
Ingredients | 100% Organic Rooibos
Origin | South Africa
Our rooibos is grown by farmers at the Wupperthal Original Rooibos Co-operative, a democratically organized group of small-scale farmers who have grown rooibos plants in South Africa for generations. Small-scale farmers are very rare in the plantation-dominated rooibos industry. These farmers were pushed off the most fertile land in the 1800s and later endured segregation imposed by apartheid. They now grow food in the very dry, rocky soil of the Cedarberg Mountains which presents a big challenge for most of their crops. With Rooibos, however, the slower growth and lower production have resulted in notably higher quality tea compared to plantation Rooibos which is grown on the most fertile lands. Today, the vast majority of rooibos production is on plantations with white landowners, making Wupperthal a true gem in a rocky landscape.

ORGANIC TURMERIC GINGER TEA / Caffeine-Free
Re-energize with this naturally caffeine-free blend of earthy turmeric and peppery ginger. An enjoyable herbal tonic for mind and body alike.
Ingredients | Organic Turmeric, Organic Ginger
Origin | Sri Lanka
We are proud to support the Marginalized Organic Producers’ Association (MOPA), a network of over 800 small-scale farmers, about half of whom are women, in the Uva and Central regions in Sri Lanka. These farmers grow spices and tea and are committed to organic and biodynamic agriculture. Most teas–even those that are certified as fair trade–come from large plantations where workers have little say and are trapped in a system of dependency. The small farmers who grow our teas control their land and their livelihoods. Together, we’re building an alternative tea model and a farmer-led future for the tea industry.

ORGANIC ASSAM BLACK TEA
This mellow and malty Assam black tea celebrates the unique flavor characteristics of the Assam tea-growing region. Add milk to enhance your experience.
Ingredients | 100% Organic Black Tea Leaves
Origin | India
We are proud to support the emerging Karbi-Anglong Small Farmers tea project in Assam, India. Assam became the epicenter of the colonial tea plantation system in the 1800s when the British lost their trade monopoly with China. Vast plantations were established under British rule and workers were coerced from the most vulnerable populations in central India through indentured contracts to labor on the plantations. Today, Assam's tea plantations are still fraught with labor injustices and many plantation laborers live and work in terrible conditions. The Karbi-Anglong Small Farmers tea project represents the beginning of a small farmer tea model in Assam. Together, we’re building an alternative tea model and a farmer-led future for the tea industry.

A fine morning tradition that can be enjoyed at any hour. This full-bodied cup is the perfect way to start your day. Add milk and sugar to enhance your experience.
Ingredients | 100% Organic Black Tea Leaves
Origin | India or Sri Lanka
We are proud to support the Potong Tea Garden in Darjeeling, India. Once a colonial plantation, Potong is now collectively run by its workers, paving a stronger, more democratic path forward for the community. This revolutionary model generates significant improvements for the garden’s 350 workers and their families, and is helping to spark a badly needed transformation of the tea industry. Most teas–even those that are certified as fair trade–come from large plantations where workers have little say and are trapped in a system of dependency. The small farmers who grow our teas control their land and their livelihoods. Together, we’re building an alternative tea model and a farmer-led future for the tea industry.
